1984

Foundation

Rwanda National Olympic & Sports Committee established, joining the Olympic family.

1988

First Olympic Games

Rwanda makes its debut at the Seoul Summer Olympics with a small athletics delegation.

1996

Post-Genocide Rebirth

Sports becomes a powerful tool for unity and healing in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide.

2000

Youth Programs Launch

National school sports championships established, creating pathways for young athletes.

2012

London Breakthrough

Rwanda sends its largest-ever Olympic team to London, competing in 7 sports disciplines.

2016

Rio Expansion

Introduction of cycling and rowing programs, diversifying Rwanda's Olympic portfolio.

2020

Tokyo Resilience

Despite pandemic challenges, Rwanda competes with renewed determination in Tokyo.

2024

Paris Vision

Strategic roadmap set for Paris 2024 with targeted medal prospects and athlete development.
